Accessible Restaurant Checklist

Use this before visiting a restaurant, café, pub or venue. Accessibility is more than simply having a ramp at the entrance.

Getting in

  • Confirm a step-free entrance.
  • Check entrance door width.
  • Ask about thresholds or steep ramps.
  • Check accessible parking or nearby drop-off if relevant.

Inside

  • Check corridor and table spacing.
  • Ask whether there is a suitable table with enough wheelchair space.
  • Check whether the route to the table is step-free.
  • Ask whether tables or chairs can be rearranged.

Toilets

  • Confirm an accessible toilet is available if needed.
  • Ask where it is located.
  • Check whether the route to it is step-free.

Food & communication

  • Ask about accessible menus or alternative formats if needed.
  • Tell staff about relevant dietary or accessibility requirements.
  • Ask whether staff can assist with practical arrangements where appropriate.

Before visiting

  • Save the venue's phone number.
  • Ask for recent photographs if you are unsure.
  • Record the name of the person who confirmed accessibility.
